Paul Salmon's Belle Isle Layout

Here are a few photos taken at the Dewsbury bus museum open day on the 9th of March 2008.

Paul is recreating Belle Isle depot in Wakefield. This depot was home to West Riding and now, Arriva Yorkshire. Using actual photos and plans, this depot is coming on nicely, especially the 'rockery'.

The Leyland National and Leyland Lynx Mk1 were repainted by myself for Paul.

This vehicle I repainted with a view of selling it on eBay. The item sold and the winning bidder had the option of which registration it would carry, as well as destination.

Photos show the model with chosen destination and vehicle identity.

Another one of my early repaints so the quality isn't up to my usual and more recent scratch.

Optare Solo - Rural Links - YC51 GZW

In total, 10 of these Optare Solos had been commissioned by a client. The photos shown here are of 7 of them, these wore the names 'Stephenson Fountain' whilst the remaining 3, not shown, were named 'Serre'.

Artwork such as the Rural Links logos and name text were supplied by the graphics company who supplied Yorkshire Terrier with the artwork for the real buses. Paint I obtained from the supplier who supplied Yorkshire Terrier.

The full sized buses are owned by SYPTE but were operated by Yorkshire Terrier, now Stagecoach Yorkshire. All the buses that were operated in the Rural Links livery wore names of people or places significant to South Yorkshire.

Another commission by a friend in the form of a Mk2 MCW Metrobus as operated by M Travel.

ROX 639Y was new to West Midlands Travel and has joined M Travel's large fleet of Metrobuses.

Decals were made by myself except the MCW badge which was acquired by a supplier. Bus handpainted using standard humbrol paint. This model was repainted before I moved on to spray painting.

Photos of M Travel's Metrobuses can be found at:

Bristol VR - Yorkshire Woollen - HHL 735L

This vehicle was commissioned by a friend.

This was one of my first attempts at doing a more complex livery on a model bus.

This livery was known as the 'Rainbow Warrior' livery and was worn by Yorkshire Woollen Bristol VR HHL 735L. West Riding also applied this livery to two Leyland Olympians but where blue has been used on this version, the Olympians wore green.

Paints are standard humbrol paints, the red is a satin red and is more orangey than the 'bright red' gloss. Decals made by myself using a font that is a near enough match for the real font.

Duple Dominant - Ridings Travel - DAK 212V

This kit was supplied to me by a friend who wanted it repainting.

This kit was already built and painted in National Express livery. I didn't dismantle the kit as it would've been rather hard to get it back together - besides, dismantling it may have ruined the overall look of the vehicle.

I removed the National Express livery as best I could and set about applying the Ridings Travel livery. Ridings Travel was the coaching side of West Riding buses. The paint is standard humbrol colours and were a good match for the real colours.

I made the decals myself using a photo editing suite and waterslip paper.

Leyland Olympian - Arriva Yorkshire - TWY 7

This is my first attempt at building a kit and repainting it. Once complete it was given to a friend as a Christmas present.

The kit is a Northern Counties Leyland Olympian supplied by Mirror Image Models.

I cleaned up the kit and set about repainting it. The model is based on TWY 7, a Leyland Olympian based at Arriva Yorkshire's Pontefract depot. It was frequently used on the 410 service between Leeds, Pontefract and Doncaster.

The bus was bought new by South Yorkshire Road Transport of Pontefract, they were taken over by West Riding who in turn were acquired by British Bus - Cowie - Arriva.

When Pontefract depot was closed, TWY 7 transferred to Castleford depot. It had been in use for a while before it was deroofed. The bus was bought my Ensign who converted it into an open-top and re-registered E767 LBT. The reg plate TWY 7 is now worn by an ALX200 Dennis Dart, based at Selby.

Bristol VR - Yorkshire Woollen - DWY 149T

I had decided to do repaint my friend a model bus for Christmas again. I chose carefully a vehicle and livery, my friend having a large collection of West Riding and also a smaller collection of Yorkshire vehicles I decided to do a model to go into his Yorkshire Buses collection.

Not many VR's received this livery which is why I chose it, unique and rare and though it's quite a simple livery, it suits the bus very well.

http://lee-tomson.fotopic.net/p39635345.html

I used the photo in the link above as a guide to repaint the model and other VR photos from the internet to help with grille locations etc.

DWY 149T was the last in the 1978/79 DWY-T batch of West Riding Bristol VR's, originally numbered 415, it was later renumbered to 877.
